ICF Exam Practice Test

The ICF Credentialing Exam gives you a coaching situation and four coach responses; you pick the best and the worst. This free practice test uses the same format across all 8 Core Competencies, explains every answer, and scores you by competency so you know what to practise before you book the real thing.

About this practice test

Is this the real ICF exam?+

No. These are original practice scenarios written in the ICF Credentialing Exam's format — a coaching situation with four coach responses, where you choose the best and the worst. The real exam has around 80 items in a single sitting.

How is the practice test scored?+

Each question has two decisions, best and worst, so 20 questions give 40 decisions. You see the explanation immediately after each question and a score by competency at the end. There is no pass mark on this test; on the real exam ICF uses a scaled score.

Which competencies does it cover?+

All eight ICF Core Competencies, with extra weight on the areas candidates most often get wrong: ethics and scope, agreements with sponsors, and the line between coaching and advising.

How should I use it to prepare?+

Take it once without notes to find your weak competencies, read the explanations for every miss, practise those competencies in live sessions, then retake it under time pressure a week later.

Keep preparing

Knowing the best answer is step one. Doing it live is the exam.

Coach a realistic AI client, then get a scored report on all 8 competencies with quotes from your own conversation — or upload a recording of a real session.
